The Book Nook

Welcome to the Book Nook, this will be the place where I review books I've read. I'm starting this May 6th, 2025, and so the first book on the list is the one I finished most recently, however it is the seventh book I've read this year. I won't cover the others in much detail, but I will give a glowing recommendation to The Paradox Paradox by Daniel Hardcastle. Top shelf, his spot on the Sunday Times' bestseller's list was stolen by his publisher. The right berks.

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

by Lewis Carroll

It's Alice in Wonderland. You probably know it, either by reading this as a kid, having it read to you, or watching any of the Disney films. I read it a long time ago in elementary school, but I didn't actually remember as much as I thought I did. Alice spends most of the story trying to get in to the garden she sees at the start, I remember her getting in pretty quick after figuring out the whole growing and shrinking thing. It turns out the growing and shrinking is her main tool for navigating Wonderland. I also remember both the Jabberwockey poem and the snark poem in this one, but they weren't. It's very silly, the songs and poems are great, I don't think you can do much better in terms of children's literature. The whole story is full of kid logic and encourages the young'uns to look at things from different perspectives. I think that is the most important thing to teach them, and this book emphasizes that a lot. I give it 4 out of 5 stars. Quite good.
